The Black Box

The image was chosen to reflect on my negative wall space (inside the wall) in my UT environment. The design itself is similar by how a negative vertical rectangle goes straight through the area from the ceiling to the floor. This idea, for my design, was to create a rectangular ‘hole’ in the middle of the ceiling in order to allow light from above and act as the main source of luminosity. Because this light comes from the centre and top of the room, the large, thick, beam becomes a piece of the architecture itself, and by shining on to the rest of the room it cooperates with the whole vicinity. Through the different locations the light reaches, different contrasts are created, giving the viewer a more dramatic response to the interrelationship of place, material and significance.
